Psychiatrist and Medical Psychotherapist
I’m a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Medical Psychotherapy, General Adult Psychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry, offering compassionate, evidence-based care.
My approach is integrative – I look beyond diagnostic labels to understand each person’s difficulties in the context of their life story, relationships, cultural aspects and circumstances. With particular expertise in early trauma and neurodivergence, I help clients make sense of their experiences and symptoms, and support them in choosing the most suitable treatment – whether therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination.
I bring together psychodynamic principles, DBT, CBT and lifestyle-focused interventions. A key area of interest for me is the interplay between neurodivergence, personality traits, trauma, medical conditions and hormonal changes – helping patients understand their challenges and strengths more clearly.
During my last 5 years in the NHS, I worked as a psychotherapy tutor, overseeing psychotherapy training for psychiatry trainees. I supported patients with complex mental health needs including personality disorders, functional and dissociative disorders, neurodivergence, mood disorders and anxiety disorders.
About Dr Alina
I trained as a doctor in Romania and moved to the UK in 2011, completing my higher training in Birmingham in two specialties at once: psychiatry and psychotherapy. Inside the NHS I have worked in liaison psychiatry and as a psychotherapy tutor, training the next generation of psychiatrists to see the person, not just the symptoms.
Again and again I saw the same thing. People with more than one thing going on were slipping through the gaps. Today I work in private practice and online, in English and Romanian, with exactly those people, and with the clinicians who care for them.
